Professor Pierpaolo Sileri is Director of the Colorectal Surgery Unit at the IRCCS San Raffaele Hospital in Milan. He is a Full Professor of General Surgery at the Vita-Salute San Raffaele University. He also collaborates with the Casa di Cura La Madonnina and Smart Clinic.

In 1998, he graduated in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Tor Vergata in Rome, where he specialized in Digestive System Surgery and Surgical Digestive Endoscopy in 2004. He also earned a PhD in Robotics and Computer Science Applied to Surgery in 2005. From 1999 to 2002, he trained at the University of Illinois at Chicago, and from 2003 to 2005, he continued his training in General Surgery at the John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford University, UK.

Since 2020, he has served as Adjunct Professor in the Department of Biology at Temple University’s School of Science and Technology in Philadelphia (USA).

Professor Pierpaolo Sileri’s clinical and research interests focus on the digestive system, with a particular interest in minimally invasive surgery. In surgical oncology, he specializes in colon and rectal cancer, as well as anal cancer, addressing the disease using the most advanced minimally invasive laparoscopic and robotic techniques. He also specializes in inflammatory bowel diseases, including ulcerative colitis, diverticular disease, and Crohn’s disease. His expertise also includes functional surgery, including pelvic floor organ prolapse and intestinal endometriosis, applying the latest technologies and techniques to proctological conditions.

In the academic field, he has published over 350 scientific articles, educational texts, and guidelines for scientific societies. He is actively involved in both national and international research projects on the treatment of colon and rectal diseases.

A member of numerous national and international scientific societies, he serves on scientific and editorial committees and is a speaker at national and international conferences.

He has also been involved in politics, serving as Deputy Minister of Health in the Conte II government and Undersecretary of Health in the Draghi government. Elected senator in 2018, he concluded his parliamentary term at the end of the legislature, in line with the commitment he made at the beginning of his election.
