Professor Luigi Boni specializes in the surgical treatment, primarily using minimally invasive techniques (laparoscopy and robotic surgery), of a wide range of benign and malignant gastrointestinal tract and abdominal wall conditions (hernias and incisional hernias).

My primary interests, both clinical and research, are laparoscopic and robotic surgery, and new surgical technologies.
I began my professional career at the Department of Surgery at the University of Dundee in Scotland, where I worked for approximately three years with Professor Sir Alfred Cuschieri, a pioneer in the field of minimally invasive surgery and new technologies applied to general and oncology surgery.
Subsequently, I founded and directed the Research Center in Minimally Invasive Surgery at the University of Insubria, and the experience I gained has led me to perform numerous live surgical procedures at national and international conferences and training courses.
In my academic role, I have always placed the utmost emphasis on the training of young surgeons, promoted the development of the only Fellowship in Laparoscopic Surgery, and coordinated the European Euro-LapCO Project for the teaching of laparoscopic colorectal surgery.

I am currently the regional delegate of the Italian Society of Surgery and the Secretary General of the European Association for Endoscopic Surgery (EAES).
I have co-authored over 400 articles in specialized journals and more than 25 chapters in surgical textbooks.
